A student at a New Jersey university captured the moment her sociology professor claimed the 1969 moon landing was faked.

Freshman student Benny Koval, of Fair Lawn, says she raised concerns with school officials at William Paterson University after her professor Clyde Magarelli said things in class that she says made her and others uncomfortable.

The video shows Magarelli telling students that landing someone on the moon was impossible.

'You can't land on the moon, but you can see it in detail,' Magarelli is heard telling his class.

He continued: 'You can actually see great detail. That's about as close as we can get to the moon, of course we can't land on it.'

Koval then asked Magarelli: 'We haven't landed on the moon?'

'We'll never get to the moon,' he replies. 'You didn't know that?'

Koval shared the video on Twitter earlier this month with the caption: 'Never in my life did I imagine myself tweeting "my Sociology professor thinks the moon landing was faked", but here we are.'

'Clyde Magarelli presents unfounded conspiracy theories as facts at our public university,' Koval added.

Magarelli didn't stop there. Koval said Magarelli also denied 'the fact that Native Americans are, in fact, indigenous'.

Koval said she was told Magarelli previously had complaints filed against him.

The school's student newspaper reported in 1994 that the university was investigating Magarelli after he allegedly made claims in class that sharply minimized the death toll from Nazi concentration camps.

Magarelli - who has taught at William Paterson since 1967 - did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.

University officials told the DailyMail.com on Wednesday that they are looking into the complaint and videos.

'A review of this matter is underway to determine what action may be warranted,' the statement read.

'Our commitment to academic excellence is addressed in one of the University’s five core values: "As individuals and as an institution, we seek to model and to impart to our students the highest standards of knowledge, inquiry, preparation, academic freedom and integrity, as well as an expanded sense of what an individual can accomplish."'
